Book Description:
Fourteen Tales of the Orient
Throughout my childhood growing up in Michigan, my mother told us stories about her being born and raised in China by her American missionary parents, about those grandparents and their life in the Orient. Later I would live in both Korea and Japan, adding to my fascination with the Far East. Each of these fictional short stories is anchored in Chinese and Japanese history and, in some part, on my firsthand experiences and those of my mother and grandparents. Not a history book, but a glimpse into an earlier period of these two ancient and fascinating cultures through the eyes of each story's protagonists.
"You have strength as a storyteller and such a focused and unifying theme for these stories. I have truly enjoyed reading them and feel that you have incredible storytelling abilities."
- Gloria Kempton, 2nd Draft
"Tales of mystery and imagination that cover a wide range of often devastating challenges faced by people in ordinary life at a time when the divide between rich and poor was impassable. Reflecting the human truths of life in an earlier era. I loved every story in this collection."
- Joan Heron, author of
Chai Budesh? Anyone for Tea?
