Some -- the people who encounter him professionally -- have questioned the investigative expertise of Carlyle Current, private detective. His partner and true love, Tanya Berrakov, implausibly devoted to him, has nagging doubts. Manual Oldman, the quintessential aged and able fisherman, is convinced that Current is nothing more than his personal anathema. Lieutenant Damon Stoutheart of the LAPD tolerates Current, but only out of respect for Current’s family and affection for Tanya’s sister. The dog Current had as a child slept with one paw in his food bowl and one eye partially open. In Face of Crime, Charles Doughfinger, Current’s employer, quite obviously finds him less than satisfactory in regard to his professional ability… And so it goes.
That’s some of the negative. As to the positive, that’s for the reader to deduce. Phew. Off the hook. |
