Author Bio:
GILBERTO VÉLEZ-BORRERO is a native of Puerto Rico. He studied Spanish in elementary and high school, just as American students must study English in order to learn to read and write their native language. After being honorably discharged from the USA (891 AAA GN BN) Mr. Vélez joined the Puerto Rico Insular (state) Police from which he resigned to travel to Philadelphia to study criminology at the Pennsylvania Institute of criminology. After graduating from PIC he joined the Philadelphia Police as a fingerprint technician. He was promoted to supervisor in both, the Fingerprint Unit and the Police Photo Laboratory. While working the nightshift he traveled every day from Philadelphia to New York City to study photography at the New York Institute of Photography. While working in the Philadelphia Police as a Fingerprint Technician an as a Police Photographer Mr. Vélez attended Rutgers University in Camden, New Jersey from where he obtained an AS and a BA. He also attended Antioch University (Philadelphia) from where he obtained a Master of Education (M. Ed). He studied Spanish at Villanova University, Eastern University and Temple University. Mr. Vélez passed the Spanish Teacher’s examination and was certified as a Teacher of Spanish by the New Jersey Department of Education. Mr. Vélez is a member of the American Society of Teachers of Spanish and Portguese, the American Linguistics Association and the American Translators Association. He taught in public schools in Philadelphia, PA, Camden, NJ, Atlantic City and was an Adjunct Professor of Spanish at Rowan University, NJ. Mr. Vélez likes to write poetry and admires Edgar Allan Poe and Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz.
