Time line 1940. The Dumont family were typical Maine lobster fishermen. The father was struck down with a heart attack. The oldest son was now the captain. His younger brother had to drop out of school to take his older brother's place as sternman(helper). The older brother, Greg, was like a bull in a china shop. The younger brother, Jack, was constantly preoccupied with his head in the clouds. The combination added an additional risk to what is the world's most dangerous occupation. As the winter lobster season progressed, they went from one near catastrophe after another. It was the wisdom of the town drunk that proved to be the salvation of the Dumont family.
