Book Description:
Where is the Father of Fen/Phen? is the story of Dr. Pietr Hitzig, Baltimore internest with a proven solution to alcohol and drug addiction, who at the turn of the century had been jailed for nearly 300 days even though he has never been convicted of any crime. The subtitle, Convicted Drug Lords Get Better Treatment! emphasizes the injustice dealt Dr. Hitzig, who has been in Federal custody since his arrest on July 7, 1999 on an indictment charging him with violating major drug laws. He is the first doctor charged under these statutes, but odds are he won't be the last. Many convicted drug pushers do not serve that much time. Millions who took Fen/Phen in the late 90's ranging from writers and teachers to office workers and mothers staying home with small children were delighted when numerous medical and science studies by America's finest medical research institutions absolved Fen/Phen from causing heart valve problems, but we did not know it solved so many health problems. Dr. Hitzig did not fare as well. The Harvard-educated physician traveled from a glamorous life as a highly successful physician/scientist to the depths of SuperMax, Maryland's prison for the most hardened criminals. If he lives until May 1, 2000 he will have his day in court.
